A T H O M E
WORDS OF WISDOM
Each day during the holidays, Emma,
right,
opens an origami bird to find an
inspirational quote her mom has written
inside. “It's a nice way to get the two of us
talking and start the day with a positive
thought,” Lisa says.
LISA’S DECORATING TRICKS
“Shop” around your
house instead of buying extra seasonal
stuff. A ceramic pitcher holds berry
stems nicely; a decorative bowl can
corral small packages that might get
lost under the tree.
Buy a case to add spots
of color. “Oranges, lemons, limes—they
all have good staying power, and you get
a lot of bang for your buck,” Lisa says.
Personalize the tree with
photo ornaments. Print digital images
onto card stock, cut with decorative
scissors, and hang with ribbon.
FLIGHT OF FANCY
Curly willow branches decorated with
origami birds turn a potted orchid into a
funky treelike centerpiece,
left.
It's also
Lisa’s spin on an Advent calendar: The
paper birds bear daily messages inside.
